Our Team

A Living Laboratory

Our Founder

John Hagel III, President

John Hagel has spent over 40 years in Silicon Valley as a management consultant, author, speaker, and entrepreneur. After recently retiring as a partner from Deloitte, he published a new book, The Journey Beyond Fear, which serves as the foundation for the Center for Growth. 


Throughout his career, John has worked with leaders of large institutions around the world. While at Deloitte, John was the founder and chairman of the global research center – the Deloitte Center for the Edge. Before joining Deloitte, John was a Principal at McKinsey & Company, where he was a leader in their Strategy Practice and helped to open their Silicon Valley office, as well as launching their e-commerce practice in the early 1990’s.  John has served as senior vice president of strategy at Atari, Inc., and is the founder of two Silicon Valley startups.


John has served as the chair of a Global Future Council at the World Economic Forum, he has organized and hosted many roundtables at the Aspen Institute, and he is also a faculty member at Singularity University. He also serves on the Board of Trustees at the Santa Fe Institute, an organization that conducts leading edge research on complex adaptive systems.


In addition to his most recent book, John has published seven other books, including the best selling business books, The Power of Pull, Net Gain, Net Worth, Out of the Box, and The Only Sustainable Edge. He is widely published and quoted in major business publications including The Economist, Fortune, Forbes, Business Week, Financial Times, and Wall Street Journal, as well as general media like the New York Times, NBC and BBC. He has won two awards from Harvard Business Review for best articles in that publication and has been recognized as an industry thought leader by a variety of publications and institutions, including the World Economic Forum and Business Week.


John received a BA from Wesleyan University, a B.Phil. from Oxford University, and a JD and MBA from Harvard University.

Since 2020, Tracey has helped John turn his vision for the Center into action with the development of the Center's business model and programming based on John's concepts. Tracey continues to drive the Center's operational development.

Tracey has worked in impact strategy related to organizational and socio-economic change her entire career, leading strategy sessions for diverse stakeholders and corporate teams and helping execute client strategy. Data-driven analysis, qualitative methods, strategic foresight, and breakthrough events are core elements to her work. 


Serving in leadership roles at small businesses and nonprofits over her career, Tracey has been exposed to all facets of business operations and has driven growth through the development of new products and services, client relationships, and partnerships. 


In 2016 she founded Next Curve Strategy and works with leaders in the US and Europe to develop and execute their strategic initiatives such as organizational development that boosts employee engagement, innovation and operational performance. She also helps European companies gain foothold in Silicon Valley through strategic partnerships and acquisitions. Getting involved before a deal is announced, she performs cultural risk due diligence, develops the deal thesis and  communications, and manages the post-deal integration.

Jennifer is an accomplished Executive and Personal Assistant with over 10 years of experience supporting C-level executives, entrepreneurs, and senior leadership across a wide range of industries, including clean energy, finance, real estate, and global consultancy. She is recognized for her discretion, professionalism, and ability to manage complex executive operations with precision and strategic foresight.

Jennifer’s career includes more than 16 years of expertise in domestic and international event planning, having successfully coordinated high-level meetings and conferences in the United States, the United Kingdom, Jordan, Dubai, and Guam.

In addition to her administrative and operational roles, Jennifer has contributed to marketing initiatives and business development efforts. She is the co-inventor of JavaHook®, an award-winning consumer product recognized for its innovation and design. She previously held a Texas real estate license and the Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) designation, and she is currently commissioned as a Notary Public in the State of Texas.

Jennifer holds a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Physiology from Virginia Tech. Outside of her professional responsibilities, she is an avid endurance athlete and has completed multiple marathons—including the Chicago and Marine Corps Marathons—as well as various triathlons throughout Texas. She is also actively involved in community service and currently serves as Parliamentarian on the Board of the National Charity League, Stone Oak Chapter.

She founded Significance LLC as a purpose-driven agency with a strong emphasis on philanthropy, social innovation, and sustainability. With her entrepreneurial spirit, she also founded the Carbon Champ initiative, a sustainability program that monetizes the social impact of IT equipment reuse before recycling.

Known for her unique ability to connect people to their deepest-held beliefs and inspire courageous action, Lucy has devoted herself to the science and practice of how people change. She is a social psychologist, master facilitator, and thought leader with an emphasis on individual and systems-level transformation. Lucy works in partnership with trailblazing individuals and organizations to unlock humanity’s potential and bring paradigm-shifting change to the world. She is a steward of empowering women visionaries and awakening the divine feminine principles to usher forth a more regenerative society that places human and planetary thriving at the core. 


Born in the highlands of rural Mexico, Lucy holds a BA and MA in Psychology from Stanford University where she conducted research on empathy and belief polarization.

Nene has been supporting individuals, leaders and organizations for over 25 years. Drawing from over 20 years of experience across financial services, luxury brands, higher education, and creative industries, Fabio understands the practical pressures his clients face. His PhD in Business/Marketing from University of St. Gallen and his experience as a professor and senior lecturer at international universities and as an entrepreneur inform his ability to help clients think strategically about complex challenges.


Fabio takes a holistic approach to coaching that incorporates insights from neuroscience, lifestyle medicine, philosophy, positive psychology, and contemplative practices including meditation and breath work. He recognizes that sustainable success requires attention to both professional objectives and personal wellbeing, particularly for those working in demanding environments.


Through his consulting firm Bello & Benfatto KlG, Fabio also works with premium and luxury companies on customer-centric strategies and brand experiences. This combination of individual coaching and organizational consulting gives him perspective on how personal and leadership development connect to business outcomes.

Dean Ornish, M.D., is the founder and president of the non-profit Preventive Medicine Research Institute and Clinical Professor of Medicine at UCSF and Clinical Professor of Medicine at UCSD.  


He received his M.D. from the Baylor College of Medicine, was a clinical fellow in medicine at Harvard Medical School, and completed an internship 

Dean Ornish, M.D., is the founder and president of the non-profit Preventive Medicine Research Institute and Clinical Professor of Medicine at UCSF and Clinical Professor of Medicine at UCSD.  


He received his M.D. from the Baylor College of Medicine, was a clinical fellow in medicine at Harvard Medical School, and completed an internship and residency in internal medicine at the Massachusetts General Hospital.  He earned a B.A. in Humanities summa cum laude from the University of Texas in Austin, where he gave the baccalaureate address.


For over 45 years, he has directed clinical research demonstrating, for the first time, that comprehensive lifestyle changes may begin to reverse even severe coronary heart disease, without drugs or surgery.  Medicare created a new benefit category, “intensive cardiac rehabilitation,” to provide coverage for this program, which is now being covered when offered virtually.  He directed the first randomized controlled trial demonstrating that comprehensive lifestyle changes may slow, stop or reverse the progression of early-stage prostate cancer.  His research showed that comprehensive lifestyle changes affect gene expression, “turning on” disease-preventing genes and “turning off” genes that promote cancer and heart disease, as well as the first controlled study showing that these lifestyle changes may begin to reverse cellular aging by lengthening telomeres, the ends of our chromosomes which regulate aging (in collaboration with Dr. Elizabeth Blackburn, Nobel Laureate).  He recently directed the first randomized controlled trial showing that lifestyle changes may often improve cognition and function in those with early Alzheimer’s disease.


He is a #1 New York Times bestselling author of UnDo It!(coauthored with Anne Ornish) and six other books, all national bestsellers. His three main-stage TED.com talks have been viewed by over seven million people.

The research that he and his colleagues conducted has been published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, The Lancet, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, Circulation, The New England Journal of Medicine, the American Journal of Cardiology, 


The Lancet Oncology, and elsewhere.  A one-hour documentary of their work was broadcast on NOVA, the PBS science series, and was featured in The Game Changers and other documentaries.  He has written a monthly column for TIME, Newsweek and Reader’s Digest magazines, is a LinkedIn Influencer, and was Medical Editor of The Huffington Post 2010-2016.

Jean Houston, Ph.D., is one of the foremost visionary thinkers and doers of our time. Jean Houston, Ph.D., is one of the foremost visionary thinkers and doers of our time. She is long regarded as one of the principal founders of the Human Potential Movement.  Dr. Houston is noted for her ability to combine a deep knowledge of history, culture, new science, spirituality and human development into her teaching.  She is known for her inter-disciplinary perspective delivered in inspirational and humorous keynote addresses.


A prolific writer, Dr. Houston is the author of 26 books including “Jump Time”, “ A Passion for the Possible”, “Search for the Beloved”, “Life Force”, “The Possible Human”, “Public Like a Frog”, “A Mythic Life: Learning to Live Our Greater Story”, and “Manual of the Peacemaker”.


As Advisor to UNICEF in human and cultural development, she has worked around the world helping to implement some of their extensive educational programs.  In September of 1999, she traveled to Dharamsala, India as a member of a group chosen to work with the Dalai Lama in a learning and advisory capacity. 


Dr. Houston has also served in an advisory capacity to President and Mrs. Clinton as well as assisting Mrs. Clinton in her writing of her book, “It Takes A Village: And Other Lessons Children Teach Us”.  She has met with President and Mrs. Carter, and with leaders in many countries and cultures.  As a high school student she worked closely with another First Lady of the United States, Eleanor Roosevelt, in developing strategies to introduce international awareness and United Nations work to young people.

In 1965, along with her husband Dr. Robert Masters, Dr. Houston founded The Foundation for Mind Research. She is also the founder and principal teacher, since 1983, of the Mystery School, now called the Renaissance of Spirit, a school of human development, a program of cross-cultural, mythic and spiritual studies, dedicated to teaching history, philosophy, the New Physics, psychology, anthropology, and the many dimensions of human potential.

        

In 2008, the Jean Houston Foundation was formed to teach Social Artistry in the United States and overseas.  This training has been conducted in Albania, the Eastern Caribbean, Kenya, Zambia, Nepal, and the Philippines.

        

A powerful and dynamic speaker, she holds conferences and seminars with social leaders, educational institutions and business organizations worldwide. Jean Houston has worked intensively in 40 cultures helping to enhance and deepen their own uniqueness while they become part of the global community.

Jean Houston holds a B.A. from Barnard College, a Ph.D. in psychology from the Union Graduate School and a Ph.D. in religion from the Graduate Theological Foundation. She has also been the recipient of honorary doctorates.

Dale Dougherty is the leading advocate of the Maker Movement. He founded Make: Magazine 2005, which first used the term “makers” to describe people who enjoyed “hands-on” work and play. He started Maker Faire in the San Francisco Bay Area in 2006, and this event has spread to nearly 200 locations in 40 countries, with over 1.5M attendees

She co-founded Dionysus Health, combining AI and epigenetics to invent the first ever biological test for postpartum depression and change the lives of millions of families. She also develops AI tools for learning at home and in school, models of bias in hiring and promotion, and neurotechnologies to treat dementia and TBI. 


In her free time, Vivienne designs AI systems to treat her son’s diabetes, predict manic episodes in bipolar sufferers, and reunite orphan refugees with extended family members. 


For relaxation, she writes science fiction and spends time with her wife and children. 


Vivienne was named one of “10 Women to Watch in Tech” by Inc. Magazine and one of the BBC’s 100 Women in 2017. She is featured frequently for her research and inventions in The Financial Times, The Atlantic, Quartz Magazine and the New York Times.


Dr. Ming received her Bachelor of Science degree with honors in cognitive neuroscience from the University of California at San Diego, a PhD in Psychology at Carnegie Mellon University and its Center for the Neural Basis of Cognition.
